The Earth teems with life: in its oceans, forests, skies and cities. Yet there's a black hole at the heart of biology. We do not know why complex life is the way it is, or, for that matter, how life first began. In The Vital Question, award-winning author and biochemist Nick Lane radically reframes evolutionary history, putting forward a solution to conundrums that have puzzled generations of scientists.

For two and a half billion years, from the very origins of life, single-celled organisms such as bacteria evolved without changing their basic form. Then, on just one occasion in four billion years, they made the jump to complexity. All complex life, from mushrooms to man, shares puzzling features, such as sex, which are unknown in bacteria. How and why did this radical transformation happen?

The answer, Lane argues, lies in energy: all life on Earth lives off a voltage with the strength of a lightning bolt. Building on the pillars of evolutionary theory, Lane's hypothesis draws on cutting-edge research into the link between energy and cell biology, in order to deliver a compelling account of evolution from the very origins of life to the emergence of multicellular organisms, while offering deep insights into our own lives and deaths.

Both rigorous and enchanting, The Vital Question provides a solution to life's vital question: why are we as we are, and indeed, why are we here at all?

They’re fantastic!!!!
Size: X-Large, Color: Multicoloured E-(5-pack)
My clothing size is 16/18 and XL. Even though Amazon suggested a size XXL, I ordered my normal XL and they fit perfectly. The fabric for this style is 92% bamboo viscose and is amazingly soft and almost silky feeling. I had ordered a different boy short in this brand but they were 80% bamboo viscose and the fabric was significantly heavier. I returned those and ordered these.

Comfortable, breathable, and flattering
Size: Small, Color: Pink/White/Khaki/Blue/Brown
I’m really pleased with this set of cotton women’s boxer shorts. The fabric is genuine cotton and feels lightweight and breathable without feeling flimsy or cheap. They’re comfortable enough to wear all day, especially if you prefer natural fibers. The elastic waistband is soft, comfortable, and also really cute, it doesn’t dig in or feel restrictive at all. The fit is true to size. I usually wear a small in underwear and these fit me perfectly. They feel secure while still looking sexy and relaxed at the same time, which is a great balance. I also really appreciate the earthy color palette, it feels calm, natural, and wearable rather than overly bright or synthetic. Overall, these are well-made, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed, and I’d happily order them again.

Lightweight and Comfortable.
Size: Small, Color: Pink/White/Khaki/Blue/Brown
These cotton boy shorts are really comfortable and soft. The material is breathable and feels nice on the skin, not itchy or tight. The size small fits true to size and stays in place without rolling up. I like the striped design and how they give good coverage while still feeling lightweight. Great for everyday wear and easy to wash. Overall, a solid and comfy underwear set.

Great toddler backpack!
Size: Small, Color: All Black
My daughter is in prek 3 and loves this backpack. Nice and small for her to carry. A full folder will fit with a little force, but if you’re looking for something to actually carry folders and books, maybe not the best.

“Tiny Backpack, Big Personality!”
This little backpack is doing big kid things — and my toddler knows it. The second we strapped it on, he marched around like he was off to close a business deal with juice boxes in both hands. It’s the perfect size for tiny shoulders, and the chest buckle? GENIUS. No more slippy straps or bag-flinging tantrums. It stays put like a champ, even during epic playground sprints and spontaneous dance moves in the grocery store. The material is sturdy, the zippers glide like butter, and the reflective strip makes my toddler look like he’s ready for a baby night shift. The color combo is sleek — black and grey with just the right touch of “cool kid on campus” energy. Plenty of space for snacks, sippy cups, a favorite toy, and 14 mysterious pebbles he insisted on collecting “for science.” If your 2-4-year-old wants to carry their own stuff and look proud doing it — this is the backpack for them. Highly recommend (and yes, I already ordered another one for backup... because toddlers). 🎒
